Chiropractor for Sandpoint, ID

Sandpoint is its own kind of town. Eight thousand people wedged between Lake Pend Oreille and the Selkirks, with First Avenue and Cedar Street still feeling like the small downtown they were thirty years ago — coffee shops, the Panida, a bookstore, a few good restaurants. Then you look up and Schweitzer is right there, twenty minutes from the lake to the lift.

The people who walk through our door from up that way are a mix. Long-time locals who have logged, fished, and built houses here their whole lives. Retirees who picked Sandpoint for the water and the quiet. A wave of tech workers who moved up during COVID and never went back. And the ski-and-lake crowd that organizes their year around powder days at Schweitzer and summer weekends on Pend Oreille.

Different lives, same bodies, same pains. Skier knees that never fully came back from a hard season. Boat-launcher backs from hauling wakeboards and coolers down ramps at City Beach and Garfield Bay. Retirees dealing with hip pain and sciatica that makes a walk along Sand Creek miserable. Snowboarders with wrists and shoulders that took the brunt of a fall off the Stella chair. Remote workers who suddenly realized that eight hours a day at a kitchen table is wrecking their neck.

Most of them have already tried the usual stops. They want something that actually holds.

A Different Kind of Visit

Here’s what’s different about coming to Muscle Works. Every visit is 40 minutes, one-on-one, with Dr. Brent Hirschi. Not just the intake — every visit. No rotating through rooms, no five-minute crack-and-go.

The reason is simple. After 15-plus years of doing this, Dr. Hirschi is convinced that most chronic pain isn’t a joint problem first — it’s a muscle problem that became a joint problem. Muscles shut down, get stuck short or weak, and the joints they’re supposed to stabilize start drifting. You can adjust the joint all day, but if the muscle around it is still offline, it slides right back out within hours.

So we work the muscles first. Hands-on soft tissue, trigger point release, specific re-activation of the muscles that have gone quiet. Then — once the surrounding tissue is actually ready to hold a correction — we adjust with the Activator method. It’s a small handheld instrument that delivers a precise, low-force impulse. No twisting the spine, no cracking, no big rotational thrusts. People who have always been nervous about chiropractic tend to exhale the first time they feel it.

You leave with a short list of exercises specific to what we found. Not a generic printout. Two or three things to do at home so the work holds between visits.

What Brings Sandpoint Patients Down to CDA

The pattern of what we see from Sandpoint is pretty consistent.

Chronic ski and snowboard injuries lead the list — knees, low backs, shoulders, and wrists from years of Schweitzer falls that never fully resolved. Low back pain from lake season: loading and unloading boats, lifting kids in and out, the awkward angles of a wakesurfing setup. Sciatica that’s been creeping for years in the retiree population and finally crosses the line.

We also see a steady stream of post-MVA patients from the US-95 corridor — that stretch between Sandpoint and Sagle is notorious in winter for black ice and rear-enders, and whiplash from those crashes is one of the most under-treated injuries we see. And runners — the Sandpoint to Dover Trail crowd — with IT band issues, plantar fasciitis, and hip restrictions that won’t let go.

Veterans in Sandpoint & Bonner County

Bonner County has a significant veteran population — a lot of folks who served and chose this part of the country specifically for the space and the quiet. Muscle Works is a VA Community Care provider, which means your chiropractic care here is covered through the VA with a single referral. You don’t pay out of pocket and you don’t fight the paperwork. Mention you’re a veteran when you call and we’ll walk you through the referral process and coordinate directly with your VA contact. We’ve taken care of a lot of Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry veterans this way.

The Drive Down US-95

It’s about 50 minutes south on US-95 from downtown Sandpoint to our office in Coeur d’Alene. Most Sandpoint patients pair the visit with a Costco run or a stop in Hayden — makes the trip pencil out.

Your first visit runs a full hour so we can do a real assessment. Every visit after that is the standard 40 minutes. We block enough time that you don’t sit in a waiting room — show up, get worked on, head home.

FAQ — Muscle Works Chiropractic in Sandpoint

Common questions from Sandpoint clients.

Most chiropractors focus on spinal adjustments. I focus on the muscles that hold your spine in place. Using Muscle Therapy, I test hundreds of muscles to find the ones that have shut down, then reactivate them so your body can hold its own alignment. That means longer-lasting results, fewer visits — and a full 40 minutes one-on-one every time, never a rushed appointment.

Your first visit is a full movement pattern and muscle function evaluation. I’ll test hundreds of muscles to find which ones have shut down and are driving your pain, then build you a personalized treatment plan from what I find. Plan on about 60 minutes — and on having my full attention the whole time.

No. I use the Activator Method — a gentle, instrument-assisted adjustment technique with no twisting, popping, or cracking. It’s comfortable for patients of every age, from infants to seniors. You may feel mild tenderness as dormant muscles wake back up, but that usually settles within a day.

Most patients feel significant improvement in 6–10 visits. My goal is to get you better and graduate you — not to keep you coming back indefinitely. After your initial plan, many patients choose occasional maintenance visits to stay ahead of trouble, but that’s always your choice.

Yes. I’m a VA-credentialed chiropractic provider. If you’re a veteran with a VA community care referral, your chiropractic care with me is fully covered — no copay, no deductible, no out-of-pocket cost. Contact our VA liaison, Kelly Young, to get started.
